Is the name even in any way suitable for you with the situation you’ve voluntarily put yourself in? Maybe— you’ll consider it.
When one hears of the name Cupid, they immediately think of the half naked god who brings a bow and arrow everywhere he goes, said by many to be the one responsible for establishing love amongst people. With a single strike of his bow into one’s chest, the victim falls immediately for the first person they catch sight of.
summary: your decision to wear your brother’s volleyball jacket while studying at a cafe leads to an interesting interaction between you and the famous oikawa, who is not aware that you aren’t the karasuno volleyball club’s famous pretty manager.
The sound of an unfamiliar voice breaks your concentration and you find yourself looking up to meet a pair of warm, brown eyes. You stare at the unfamiliar boy standing in front of you, tilting your head to the side as you reply.
“Um, excuse me?”
“It’s you!” the stranger repeats, his eyes sparkling as they drag over the lettering on your jacket.
“Do I know you?” you ask quietly, placing your pen down before turning to fully face the boy.
“You might have heard of me,” the boy replies, an admittedly swoon-worthy smile making its way onto his face. “I’m Oikawa Tooru. Captain of the Aoba Johsai volleyball team.”
“Okay?” you say, fidgeting in your seat. That single word causes Oikawa’s smile to falter as he notices the disinterest that clouds your eyes. Silently, he slides into the seat across from you, placing his elbow on the table and resting his cheek upon his palm as he stares at you. That breathtaking smile is still visible on his face.
“You must have heard of me,” Oikawa says, wincing internally when he realizes how prideful that statement sounds. He shakes off his nerves, knowing that although the statement sounds cocky, it’s true. He has been labelled as one of the top players to watch out for and seeing as how you seem to be involved in the world of high school volleyball, you should know who he is.
“Sorry,” you reply, ducking your head as you pick your pen back up. “I’m not really into volleyball.”
[11:03 PM] to be honest, he isn’t exactly sure what he’s doing still awake at this time of night. he also isn’t sure why he’s currently sitting atop the hill behind shiratorizawa, looking nowhere but the glittering sky above. he has practice in seven hours.
from a few feet away, you sigh. right. that’s why.
“what was on your mind?” ushijima asks, leaning back against his arms. olive eyes study your distant side profile carefully. you’d called him just as he was drifting off to sleep, asking him to meet you here. perhaps he should have pressed you for more answers before sneaking out his dorm. but you’d sounded so… excited. he didn’t want to let you down.
the evening breeze sweeps over your bodies. you shiver and pull your legs to your chest, thankful that the darkness outside can cover the blush spreading over your cheeks.
“would you be mad if it was stupid?” you reply with a sheepish smile.
the corners of his lips quirk up. with a gentle shake of his head, he says, “probably not.” though it confuses him to no end, he can never stay truly mad at you. one smile and he’s gone.
“dunno. just felt like watching the sky tonight.” you look back at him, curious about what the ace thinks of trading a few hours of beauty sleep for dead stars and laconic company.
“with me?”
the air grows heavier.
“you can go if you want,” you offer, hoping it doesn’t sound as disappointed as you currently feel.
ushijima considers it. he has practice in seven hours. but he sees you bathed under the moonlight, eyes brighter than all the specks above combined, the smile on your face pleading for him to stay.
he stands up–– your heart falls a little––
and moves closer to your sitting figure. your shoulders touch as he takes the spot next to you.
— After being set up on a bad date with Ushijima, he insists on walking you to your doorstep. Not wanting him to know where you live, you lead him to Iwaizumi’s apartment and pretend Iwaizumi is your roommate.
pairing: iwaizumi hajime x reader word count: 4.0k genre: college/university au, fluff warnings: mentions of drinking, language, secondhand embarrassment, suggestive comments at the end, oikawa is meddlesome, awkward but cute confessions™!!

“I assure you, you don’t have to walk me to my apartment.”
“It’s not a bother. I insist.”
“No, it’s fine.” Although you tried to keep a smile on your face, you were certain it looked more like you were baring your teeth at him. “Really. You don’t have to do that.”
Ushijima shrugged. “I told you, it’s no big deal.”
